Queens of the Court

Queens of the Court is an empowerment program run by ReJoyce Fundamentals Academy. ReJoyce Academy was founded by Joyce Walker, a legend of a badass. Joyce was the first African American woman to become a part of the Harlem Globetrotters, as well as one of the most successful female basketball players to come out of Washington State. She continued her legacy through ReJoyce academy Seattle based non-profit organization, to help local youth on and off the courts. Oblique worked together with Joyce to create a logo that would be able to express the impact and perseverance Joyce has put into her career.

Our solution uses a graffiti writing style approach to the type treatment paired with a bright & electric color palette. Behind the type is a stylized scribble of X’s and O’s reminiscent of a basketball play book that references the game itself but not prominent as the organization represents more than just basketball. Overall the logo portrays an athletic, streetwise, “don’t f**k with me because I’m a girl” energy that, like the organization, empowers the girls and the community.

Oblique worked together with Joyce to create a logomark that would be able to express the impact and perseverance Joyce has put into her career. Along with the logo are other academy items such as designs for t-shirts, hoodies, water bottles and tote bags.
